Pick the country and city whose Russian mission is responsible for your lawful residence. Temporary physical presence alone does not establish consular jurisdiction; confirm acceptance with the mission before you submit if you hold a passport issued by United Kingdom.
Holders of an ordinary passport issued by United Kingdom need a regular visa to enter Russia. Apply through the responsible Russian mission with a passport, application, photograph, applicable fee and the supporting document required for the selected visa category.
Always verify current requirements with official sources before applying or travelling.
Citizens of United Kingdom apply for a standard Russian visa at a consulate or an authorised visa center. The supporting document depends on the visa category. For a tourist visa, tourist acceptance confirmation from an eligible issuer; a narrow accommodation-booking alternative applies only where the official rule allows it. Other categories use their own prescribed invitation or evidence.

British citizens are expressly ineligible for the unified e-visa; the primary tourism route is a regular paper tourist visa. A UK tourist cannot use a hotel booking alone as the visa basis: the UK is outside the official hotel-booking nationality list, so the registered-tour-operator Confirmation of Acceptance/tourist voucher is required.
Required. For an ordinary British passport holder, a regular tourist visa requires a Confirmation of Acceptance/Tourist Confirmation Voucher from an organisation in the Unified Federal Register of Tour Operators; the hotel-booking-only alternative is limited to a named list that does not include the UK.
The London tourist page includes Medical Insurance in its requirements but states it is required on a reciprocity basis for Israel, Ireland, Iran and listed Schengen states; the UK is not named. Edinburgh presents the same named reciprocity list. Treat the requirement for an ordinary British applicant as operationally unconfirmed and verify with the filing centre/mission before submission.

As of today, document intake is generally handled directly by the Russian consulate that serves you. Here is how that works in practice.
Direct submission means you lodge your visa application with the Russian consulate itself rather than through an intermediary. Prepare the documents listed by that mission for your category, including the applicable category-specific supporting document, book an appointment where required, submit the file and fee, then collect the passport after a decision. The consulate that serves your district in United Kingdom is the responsible office.
Submission channels and personal-appearance requirements are set by each Russian mission and may differ by visa category. Do not assume that representative or postal filing is available; confirm the current rule for United Kingdom on the responsible mission's official website before preparing or sending documents.
Some consulates work strictly by appointment booked through their online system, others accept walk-ins during fixed reception hours. Because appointment slots can fill up well in advance, plan early and confirm the booking procedure on the consulate's official page.
Authorised visa application centers (such as VFS Global and other operators) have historically accepted Russian visa applications on behalf of the consulate, for an additional service fee.

Supporting documents depend on the visa category. A tourist visa may use a tourist acceptance confirmation or, for eligible nationalities, a qualifying accommodation-booking confirmation; other visa categories use their own official invitation route.
Consular visa fees depend on nationality, visa type, processing option and the responsible Russian mission. Verify the current amount on that mission's official MFA website before applying.
