Step 2 — where will you apply?

Where are you planning to apply for your Russian visa?

Pick the country and city whose Russian mission is responsible for your lawful residence. Temporary physical presence alone does not establish consular jurisdiction; confirm acceptance with the mission before you submit if you hold a passport issued by Spain.

How citizens of Spain enter Russia

Holders of an ordinary passport issued by Spain can enter Russia with the unified eVisa — apply online at evisa.kdmid.ru, where the applicable fee is shown. It permits 1 entry and a stay within 30 days. The published eVisa rule does not require an invitation. Work, study, additional entries or longer stays require the appropriate regular visa.

Unified e-Visa (online)

Official portal fee · stay within 30 days

Spain is one of the 65 nationalities eligible for Russia's unified e-Visa. You apply entirely online at the official MFA portal and follow its current application checklist. The published eVisa rule requires medical insurance, subject to any official exemption returned for the traveler. The published eVisa rule does not require an invitation. The eVisa currently permits 1 entry and a stay within 30 days.

Category-specific documents

Citizens of Spain apply for a standard Russian visa at a consulate or an authorised visa center. The supporting document depends on the visa category. For a tourist visa, tourist acceptance confirmation from an eligible issuer; a narrow accommodation-booking alternative applies only where the official rule allows it. Other categories use their own prescribed invitation or evidence.

Russian visa requirements for Spanish citizens

Recommended route: Unified e-Visa for a qualifying short trip. Unified e-Visa for a qualifying short trip. Spanish ordinary-passport nationals are listed as eligible. The unified e-visa is for tourism (also specified private/business/event purposes), is single-entry, valid 120 days from issue, and permits up to 30 days in Russia from entry. It may be used only through approved Russian border checkpoints. Spain is expressly on the Russian MFA e-visa eligibility list; the principal tourist route is therefore e-visa, not visa-free entry. For a Spanish regular-visa applicant, the mission requires insurance with explicit Russia cover and medical cover over EUR 30,000.

Where to apply

  • E-visa: apply in the MFA e-visa personal account/site or mobile app; no visit to a Russian consulate or visa centre in Spain is required.
  • Regular visa: Russian Visa Centre, C/ Príncipe de Vergara 126, bajo, 28002 Madrid; the Embassy also identifies a visa centre at Avenida Roma 67, bajo, 08029 Barcelona.
  • Regular visa direct filing: personally at a Russian consular office after electronic appointment. Barcelona Consulate direct jurisdiction covers Aragón, Baleares, Cataluña, Murcia, Navarra, Valencia and Almería province; all other Spanish autonomous communities fall to the Embassy Consular Section in Madrid.
  • Consulate General Barcelona direct-filing address: Avenida Pearson 34, 08034 Barcelona; appointment required.

Documents

  • E-visa: machine-readable national passport issued by the applicant’s country of nationality and valid at least six months from application; JPEG passport-data image; compliant digital face photo; paid application. No invitation, hotel booking confirmation, or other document proving travel purpose is required.
  • Regular tourist visa: tourist confirmation/invitation (or, where applicable, qualifying hotel-booking confirmation); original passport with at least two facing blank pages and six months’ validity after return; electronically completed, printed and signed visa form from visa.kdmid.ru; one original colour 3 × 4 cm/carnet photo; insurance policy plus legible copy.

Invitation

The unified e-Visa does not require an invitation or hotel-booking confirmation. Regular tourist visa support differs: For a regular tourist visa, the Embassy requires a tourist confirmation (Confirmación de recepción de turista extranjero) bearing a tour-reference, issuer stamp/signature, traveller/passport details, travel dates, and requested entry count. A confirmation from a Unified Federal Register tour operator can support a one-/two-entry visa up to three months or a multiple-entry visa up to six months. A qualifying registered-hotel booking confirmation is an alternative only for a single-entry visa limited to the reservation dates.

Processing and fees

  • E-visa application: submit no earlier than 86 days and no later than four days before intended entry; MFA says it is processed in no more than four calendar days.
  • Regular visa: Embassy says normal processing is 5–10 days depending on consular workload. Three or fewer working days is exceptional, requires documented grounds and workload capacity; a tourist trip or air ticket alone is not sufficient.
  • E-visa: Spain Embassy page publishesan amount that varies with the exchange rate and must be checked before payment; see conflicts for contradictory official under-six-child wording. Payment is non-refundable.
  • Regular visa, Embassy Spain published table for Spanish citizens: single entry up to 90 days EUR 77 normal / EUR 152 urgent; two entries EUR 122 / EUR 243; multiple up to one year EUR 229 / EUR 456. Payment is due upon application and non-refundable.
  • The Barcelona Consulate’s Russia–EU agreement page instead publishes EUR 35 / EUR 70 but says that agreement does not alter tourist-visa procedures; see conflicts and do not merge the fee tables.

Medical insurance

Regular visa: Spanish/Schengen nationals need travel medical-assistance insurance explicitly covering Russia, showing the insured person and validity period, with medical-expense cover exceeding EUR 30,000; foreign insurers must explicitly confirm Russia cover or the insurer may be Russian. E-visa: MFA requires insurance valid in Russia for the entire stay unless exempt on reciprocity grounds; the consulted official page does not identify exempt nationalities, so Spanish exemption status is unconfirmed.

What is specific to Spanish applicants

  • Spain is expressly on the Russian MFA e-visa eligibility list; the principal tourist route is therefore e-visa, not visa-free entry.
  • For a Spanish regular-visa applicant, the mission requires insurance with explicit Russia cover and medical cover over EUR 30,000.
  • Direct consular jurisdiction in Spain is territorially split: Barcelona covers Aragón, Baleares, Cataluña, Murcia, Navarra, Valencia and Almería province; Madrid covers all other autonomies.
  • A Spain-mission tourist confirmation must carry a Russian tour-reference, issuer stamp/signature, traveller data, travel dates and entry count.
  • A qualifying registered-hotel confirmation supports only a single-entry regular tourist visa, limited to hotel booking dates.

Check before payment

  • Some mission pages retain superseded e-visa terms. Use the current central MFA rule: validity of 120 days and a stay of up to 30 days, subject to the published conditions.
  • The Spain Embassy e-visa page publishes USD 2 for children under six, while the MFA e-visa portal says no consular fee is charged for under-six e-visa applications. Confirm in the payment flow; do not promise a child price.
  • The Embassy Spain processing page publishes EUR 77/152, EUR 122/243 and EUR 229/456 regular-visa fee pairs for Spaniards, but the Barcelona Consulate Russia–EU agreement page says EUR 35/70 and says that agreement does not change tourist-visa procedures. The official pages do not explain the discrepancy. Use the Embassy’s current Spain processing table only with confirmation before purchase; do not combine tables.

Questions from Spanish travellers

Can a Spanish passport holder visit Russia on an e-visa, and how long can they stay?

Spanish ordinary-passport nationals are listed as eligible. The unified e-visa is for tourism (also specified private/business/event purposes), is single-entry, valid 120 days from issue, and permits up to 30 days in Russia from entry. It may be used only through approved Russian border checkpoints.

Do I need a Russian tourist invitation or hotel voucher for the e-visa versus a regular tourist visa?

What travel insurance must a Spanish applicant show, and does it need to say Russia?

Regular visa: Spanish/Schengen nationals need travel medical-assistance insurance explicitly covering Russia, showing the insured person and validity period, with medical-expense cover exceeding EUR 30,000; foreign insurers must explicitly confirm Russia cover or the insurer may be Russian. E-visa: MFA requires insurance valid in Russia for the entire stay unless exempt on reciprocity grounds; the consulted official page does not identify exempt nationalities, so Spanish exemption status is unconfirmed.

I need more than 30 days or more than one entry: can I use a tourist confirmation or hotel booking?

The unified e-Visa does not require an invitation or hotel-booking confirmation. Regular tourist visa support differs: For a regular tourist visa, the Embassy requires a tourist confirmation (Confirmación de recepción de turista extranjero) bearing a tour-reference, issuer stamp/signature, traveller/passport details, travel dates, and requested entry count. A qualifying registered-hotel booking confirmation is an alternative only for a single-entry visa limited to the reservation dates.

Should I apply online, at the Madrid/Barcelona visa centre, or directly at a consulate—and which consulate covers my region?

E-visa: apply in the MFA e-visa personal account/site or mobile app; no visit to a Russian consulate or visa centre in Spain is required. Regular visa: Russian Visa Centre, C/ Príncipe de Vergara 126, bajo, 28002 Madrid; the Embassy also identifies a visa centre at Avenida Roma 67, bajo, 08029 Barcelona. How much does the regular visa cost and how quickly can it be issued?

E-visa application: submit no earlier than 86 days and no later than four days before intended entry; MFA says it is processed in no more than four calendar days. Regular visa: Embassy says normal processing is 5–10 days depending on consular workload. Three or fewer working days is exceptional, requires documented grounds and workload capacity; a tourist trip or air ticket alone is not sufficient. Russian consulates in Spain

There are 2 Russian diplomatic missions in Spain that handle visas. Open any city for the full address, phone, email, opening hours, jurisdiction and the visa application center that serves it.

All Russian consulates in Spain

Applying directly at the consulate

As of today, document intake is generally handled directly by the Russian consulate that serves you. Here is how that works in practice.

How does direct document submission at the Russian consulate work?

Direct submission means you lodge your visa application with the Russian consulate itself rather than through an intermediary. Prepare the documents listed by that mission for your category, including the applicable category-specific supporting document, book an appointment where required, submit the file and fee, then collect the passport after a decision. The consulate that serves your district in Spain is the responsible office.

Do I have to apply in person, or can someone submit on my behalf?

Submission channels and personal-appearance requirements are set by each Russian mission and may differ by visa category. Do not assume that representative or postal filing is available; confirm the current rule for Spain on the responsible mission's official website before preparing or sending documents.

Do I need an appointment to submit documents directly?

Some consulates work strictly by appointment booked through their online system, others accept walk-ins during fixed reception hours. Because appointment slots can fill up well in advance, plan early and confirm the booking procedure on the consulate's official page.
