Pick the country and city whose Russian mission is responsible for your lawful residence. Temporary physical presence alone does not establish consular jurisdiction; confirm acceptance with the mission before you submit if you hold a passport issued by Mongolia.
No visa is required for holders of an ordinary passport issued by Mongolia within the published stay, purpose and passport conditions. Trips outside those conditions require the appropriate regular visa and its category-specific supporting documents.
Always verify current requirements with official sources before applying or travelling.
Holders of an ordinary passport issued by Mongolia may use the published visa-free route for up to 30 days. The route remains subject to the passport, purpose and other conditions shown in the linked current rule. Current condition: Сотрудники, аккредитованные в Госпротоколе МИД России, находятся без виз.
When a trip falls outside the visa-free conditions for passport type, purpose or stay, Mongolian citizens use the appropriate regular-visa category. The supporting document depends on the visa category. For a tourist visa, tourist acceptance confirmation from an eligible issuer; a narrow accommodation-booking alternative applies only where the official rule allows it. Other categories use their own prescribed invitation or evidence.

As of today, document intake is generally handled directly by the Russian consulate that serves you. Here is how that works in practice.
Direct submission means you lodge your visa application with the Russian consulate itself rather than through an intermediary. Prepare the documents listed by that mission for your category, including the applicable category-specific supporting document, book an appointment where required, submit the file and fee, then collect the passport after a decision. The consulate that serves your district in Mongolia is the responsible office.
Submission channels and personal-appearance requirements are set by each Russian mission and may differ by visa category. Do not assume that representative or postal filing is available; confirm the current rule for Mongolia on the responsible mission's official website before preparing or sending documents.
Some consulates work strictly by appointment booked through their online system, others accept walk-ins during fixed reception hours. Because appointment slots can fill up well in advance, plan early and confirm the booking procedure on the consulate's official page.
Ordinary-passport holders from Mongolia may enter Russia without a visa for up to 30 days. Review the published country conditions and effective dates before travel.
Use the traveler checker to confirm the route, then follow the current instructions of the responsible Russian consular mission for the required visa category.
For a trip that remains within the published visa-free conditions, use the evidence and limitations shown by the Visa Checker. If the trip falls outside those conditions, follow the supporting-document rules for the required regular visa category.
Consular visa fees depend on nationality, visa type, processing option and the responsible Russian mission. Verify the current amount on that mission's official MFA website before applying.
